Alter Space is pleased to announce it’s participation in Material Art Fair 2016 taking place in Mexico City, February 4-7th. In anticipation of the third edition of Material Art Fair, the gallery will present a selection of new works from artists Brynda Glazier, Courtney Johnson, Kara Joslyn, Koak, and Alexandria Tarver. All five artists work across painting and sculpture, addressing their media from a place of abstraction in form or content uncovering obsessive detail within their practice.

Brynda Glazier received an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute (2010). Recent exhibitions include Incline Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Royal Nonesuch Gallery (Oakland, CA), City Limits (Oakland, CA), Worksound Gallery (Portland, OR), and Aggregate Space (Oakland, CA). Glazier has an upcoming solo exhibition at Alter Space in 2016.

Courtney Johnson received an MFA from California College for the Arts, San Francisco (2011). Recent exhibitions include Royal Nonesuch Gallery (Oakland, CA), Park Life (San Francisco, CA), 2nd Floor Projects (San Francisco, CA), and City Limits (Oakland, CA). Johnson has an upcoming solo exhibition at Alter Space in 2016.

Kara Joslyn received a BFA from California College for the Arts, San Francisco (2008), completed post-baccalaureate studies in Painting at Columbia University, NYC (2011), and is a current MFA candidate at University of California San Diego (2016). Recent exhibitions include Land and Sea (Oakland, CA), Structural & Materials Engineering Gallery, (UC San Diego, CA), Greenpoint Terminal Gallery (New York, NY), Sala Chillida, Bizkaia Aretoa Universidad del Pais Vasco (Bilbao, Spain), S.H.E.D. Projects (Oakland, CA), and Alternativa Oncé (Monterrey, Mexico). Joslyn received the Russell Foundation Grant for her work with Holography (2014), is a nominee for the Dedalus Robert Motherwell Foundation MFA Fellowship in Painting and Sculpture (2015), and is the recipient of the Summer Graduate Teaching Scholars Award (2016). Joslyn lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.

Koak (b. 1981, Lansing, MI) received a BFA from California College of the Arts, San Francisco (2011) and is a current MFA candidate at California College for the Arts (2016). Recent exhibitions include TBD Gallery (San Francisco) and Current Space (Baltimore, MD),. Koak has an upcoming solo exhibition at Alter Space in 2016, as well as a three-person show at Et al (San Francisco, CA) in 2016.

Alexandria Tarver (b. 1989 Houston, TX) received a BFA in Studio Art from New York University, New York. Recent solo exhibitions include Deli Gallery (Brooklyn, NY) and Assembly New York (New York, NY). Selected exhibitions include Violet’s Cafe (Brooklyn, NY), Tyler Wood Gallery (San Francisco, CA) and Motel (Brooklyn, NY). Tarver lives and works in New York, NY.
