Mike Rothfeld’s mixed-media sculpture employs a sci-fi narrative with a level of absurdity based on lo-fi materials and narratives reliant on special effects and imagination. Achieving a conceptual baseline for believability, Rothfeld’s sculptures are constructed to respond with a viewer’s own level of disbelief or acceptance, ultimately revealing a visual circumstance for a viewer to create their own reality within his work. In the Region of the Disprovable will feature a site-specific installation in the Peephole Gallery of new sculpture by Rothfeld.
Mike Rothfeld lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area and received an MFA in Fine Art and MA in Visual and Critical Studies from California College of the Arts (2014) and a BFA in Photography and Imaging from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (2003).
